Travelling 200kms to Eat New Zealand’s Best pie

The Fairlie Bakehouse pie is a ‘must visit’ when exploring the Mackenzie Region. Known for their pork belly and apple pie with crackling on top and their bacon and salmon pie, they make everything on site that day and pride themselves in sourcing local produce wherever possible. Behind this ‘foodie’ heaven is Franz Lieber and his wife, Christine. As an internationally trained chef with more than 40 years of experience, Franz loves to experiment with all types of interesting flavours. I recommend trying them all, although maybe not on the same day!
